People who spoil the narrative twists and turns of art, be it film or music or anything at all, are card-carrying asshats. Here to reiterate that fact with far less harsh language is director Quentin Tarantino, the mind behind this summer's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
In a letter addressed to attendees of the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, Tarantino pointed to the importance of fellow cinema lovers being able to experience an artist's intended experience for the first time without spoilers floating about in their heads.
"The cast and crew have worked so hard to create something original, and I only ask that everyone avoids revealing anything that would prevent later audiences from experiencing the film in the same way," Tarantino said.
If Tarantino has indeed taken his Charles Manson-adjacent story to, say, Inglourious Basterds levels of playful history rewriting, then keeping the spoilers at bay will truly be key to the viewing experience.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is set for a Cannes debut Tuesday, with a stateside wide release slated for July 26.
The hugely anticipated '60s-set film stars Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Dakota Fanning, Al Pacino, and quite literally a ton more. Manson, meanwhile, is portrayed by Damon Herriman.
