There's been a lot of fuss about the slew ofchanges Facebook has rolled out in recent weeks, which isn't the biggest surprise. (For the record: with the exception of the exceedingly pointless and annoying "Ticker," we think most of the new features are actually pretty cool/useful). But if you think the site has changed now, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
At F8 yesterday, Mark Zuckerberg announced the real earth-shattering news about the ubiquitous social network: A completely overhauled profile that changes the fundamental user experience.
“This is the heart of the Facebook experience, completely rethought from the ground up," Zuckerberg said. "We’re calling it ‘Timeline.' Timeline is the story of your life: all your stories, all your apps and a new way to express who you are.”
With Timeline, your Facebook profile will be replaced by a dynamic, real-time stream of photos, videos, status updates and the like that dates all the way back to the day you joined Facebook. You'll get full control over what appears where in your Timeline (and who can see it), which is meant to serve as a curated "story of your life." Profiles will also now feature a large, hi-res header image in addition to the standard profile pic.
Timeline is set up to automatically highlight and/or group big events, like a new job or vacation. You also get access to a "private activity log" which tracks all of the things you've shared on Facebook— ever. From there you can choose where and how specific posts appear on your profile.
