Passenger Attempts to Hijack Flight Bound for Istanbul to Sochi

The attempt has been thwarted.

This afternoon, a passenger aboard a Ukrainian flight headed to Istanbul reportedly attempted to hijack the plane to Sochi, Russia

The New York Times reports that a man identified as a Ukrainian citizen alleged that he was armed with a bomb aboard a Pegasus Airlines flight carrying 110 passengers. According to the Washington Post, the pilot signaled that a hijack attempt was underway and Sabiha Gokcen International Airport in Istanbul was made aware.

Meanwhile, the plane's crew convinced the man that the plane was headed to Sochi, the site of the Winter Olympic Games. CNNTurk reports that authorities entered the plane upon its landing and detained the man.
