This will be remembered as part of the Great Horse Meat Scandal of 2013.
In Europe, several meat products have been discovered to include horse meat of the unlabeled variety. The scandal has made it all the way up to IKEA, which has recalled its meatballs in 13 countries after they were found to contain horse meat. This is a huge deal because not only are IKEA's meatballs famous, food accounts for five percent of the company's sales.
A Czech food regulator made the shocking discovery. According to IKEA spokeswoman Ylva Magnusson, the flagged meatballs have been removed from the countries where they were sold. This includes, Ireland, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, France, the U.K., Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Greece.
