Plan for Scrapped ‘X-Force’ Trilogy Detailed by Script Writer

Back in 2013, Fantasy Island writer and director Jeff Wadlow was tasked with writing the script for an X-Force film trilogy. However, those plans fell by the wayside when Fox decided to release Deadpool instead. Seven years later, Wadlow is ready to share what he had planned for the trio of projects.

In an interview with Comic Book Movie, Wadlow reveals that the first film explored a ragtag group of superheroes that weren't lucky enough to be taken in by Professor X.

"What I can share about my take on the property, is that it asked if X-Men was about mutants who get to go to private school with Wolverine and Professor X, and have the Blackbird swooping down to pick them up, what about the mutants that have to go to public school?," he said. "What about the ones who don't have the benefactor looking out for them, and what about the kids who have to figure it out on their own?"

Although his plan for the X-Force trilogy was eventually srapped, Deadpool 2 introduced Cable, which Wadlow envisioned as the group's "darker, more militant mentor."

Wadlow saw the trilogy moving from the team we see in "in the 90s with Rob Liefeld with a band of kids fighting for what they believe in," and transitioning into "Rick Remender's version of the X-Force in the early 2000s" by the third film.

While Wadlow says that he's appreciative to even have been given the opportunity to write the script, Disney's acquisition of Fox leaves the door open just the slightest bit at the possibility of revisiting the story.

In his public appeal to Marvel overlord Kevin Feige, Wadlow doesn't want to limit himself to working on just X-Force. "I will do anything at all to work on your version of the X-Men and X-Force," he said. "I loved doing it and would of course do anything to be part of whatever new iteration they have planned."
