As LGBTQ rights here in America are slowly pushing forward (in contrast to Russia and Nigeria who have had much criticism in the media lately), Facebook has also made a subtle but substantial change for its transgender and gender neutral users.

The company announced it has added new user identification options for those who don't identify as either "he" or "she." Instead, they can choose between a new list with customizable options that reflect transgender men, women, or those who prefer neutral.

Also, for which ever option they choose, other features on Facebook will reflect that option. If they pick male, "he" or "his" will be used as a pronoun throughout the site, and "they" and "their" will be used if they pick a neutral option.

"We also have added the ability for people to control the audience with whom they want to share their custom gender," the company said on the Facebook Diversity page. "We recognize that some people face challenges sharing their true gender identity with others, and this setting gives people the ability to express themselves in an authentic way."

Awesome.

Yet, there is still some work needed to be done. "There is still no option to identify my relationship with my queer/genderqueer child without selecting Son or Daughter, even after they changed their profile to neutral pronouns," said parent Aldebran Longabaugh-Burg on the company's page.
