Facebook unveiled yesterday a new feature for suicide prevention. If you're concerned about a friend's post you'll be able to "report" it with a set of options. You can contact your friend who made the post, another friend for support, or a suicide hotline. Facebook will then look at the reported post and decide if it warrants contacting the user for help. If Facebook does reach out the user will get a message with the option to reach out to a friend, call a suicide hotline, or consult helpful materials including video messages and relaxation techniques.

Facebook has had a similar feature since 2011, but it required you to seek out the social network's suicide prevention page and upload a friend's post. Now is the first time you'll be able to report your concern directly from a post. The new feature is available to 50 percent of U.S. users as of Wednesday, and it'll roll out to the rest of the country during the "next few months."
