Netflix has gotten huge by charging its users around $8 a month for access to a bunch of forgetable movies. Customers find monthly subscriptions easy, simply because it’s one less thing they have to think about. They get charged once a month, and done. So it was only a matter of time before other industries caught on.
Attention book worms: Amazon has officially announced their monthly subscription service today, which gives you the opportunity to binge read all of the e-books you can handle. They're calling it Kindle Unlimited.
For $9.99 a month, or about $120 a year, you can have 600,000 e-books and 2,000 audiobooks at your fingertips anytime you want. Bonus: it also comes with a three-month Audible membership that gives you access to another 150,000 audiobooks. That includes “Harry Potter”, “Lord of the Rings”, and the “Hunger Games” series. As amazing as this deal is, Amazon is a bit behind the trend as other versions of this service exist, for less money. Companies such as Oyster Books and Scribd offer the same services as Kindle Unlimited for $9.95 and $8.99 per month, respectively. However, they're missing a key ingredient in what will make Kindle Unlimited tick: the Amazon name.
