Tony Award-winning and Oscar-nominated actress Diahann Carroll, who notably starred in Julia and Dynasty, has died.

Per TheHollywood Reporter, Carroll died at her Los Angeles home following a long battle with cancer. Her daughter, Suzanne Kay, confirmed that she passed away on Friday morning. She was 84.

In 1962, the multi-talented Carroll became the first black woman to win a Tony Award for best actress for her role in No Strings. In 1968 she starred in Julia, a series that was considered groundbreaking for featuring a black woman in a leading role. She would later achieve continued success in the '80s as Dominique Deveraux in the ABC soap opera Dynasty. She received her best actress Oscar nomination for the 1974 comedy-drama Claudine, which also starred James Earl Jones.

Fans of her work, including When They See Us director Ava DuVernay, flocked to Twitter to pay their respects.
