Kevin Hart was involved in a car accident early Sunday morning in Los Angeles where he suffered "major back injuries," TMZ reports.
Shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday, Hart’s 1970 Plymouth Barracuda veered off the road of the winding Mulholland Highway in the Malibu Hills, crashing into a wooden fence before landing in a ditch. The roof was reportedly crushed upon impact.
E! News has learned that even though the vehicle belongs to Hart, his friend Jared Black was driving the car at the time of the accident. Hart left the scene and was allegedly transported to his nearby home for medical attention when an SUV came to pick him up. He was later taken to a local hospital.
Black and a third passenger, Rebecca Broxterman, were originally trapped inside the car following the accident. Both were able to escape with Broxterman suffering no injuries. Black and Hart, however, allegedly “sustained major back injuries.”
California Highway Patrol have informed E! News that Black was not “under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.”
The wrecked Plymouth Barracuda was the vehicle that Hart bought for himself for his 40th birthday earlier this year.
Several of Hart's close friends and collaborators have sent well wishes the comedian's way after learning of the accident.
