Early Thursday, Netflix shared the official trailer for the extremely imminent Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. Catch that above. As for what to expect with what's being described as an "event film," here's the brief but compelling synopsis:

In 1984, a young programmer begins to question reality as he adapts a sprawling fantasy novel into a video game and soon faces a mind-mangling challenge. Welcome back.

Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk) leads the cast for the David Slade-directed standalone film, which hits the streaming platform Dec. 28.

Netflix is also said to be developing a choose-your-own-adventure batch of new Black Mirror episodes. The experiment, which will presumably count as season 5, will feature an appearance by Miley Cyrus. Additional details on the Bandersnatch event and the series' upcoming new season have not been announced.

Season 4 dropped back in December 2017. With season opener "USS Callister," creator Charlie Brooker crafted a Star Trek and current events-nodding highpoint that ultimately bagged four Emmys. "With each series, in a somewhat pretentious way, we imagine we are curating a little film festival," Brooker toldBritish GQ at the time. "Each one has to be different and fairly idiosyncratic."
