Last night, Sam Rockwell made his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live. But the Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri actor got a little too into his role during his first sketch, when he slipped an accidental F-bomb past the censors.
The unexpected moment occurred during a sketch titled Science Show alongside cast members Cecily Strong and Mikey Day. In the sketch, Rockwell plays a science teacher performing experiments with two students who seem to be lacking some brain cells. Neither of the students can manage to properly grasp the concept of the experiment and keep giving Rockwell idiotic answers. They were so hopeless, in fact, he couldn't help but go off script to utter out the phrase, "You can't be this fucking stupid."
Although the live version did not catch the bleep treatment, the Mountain and Central time airings were properly edited to omit Rockwell's blunder. The F-bomb didn't seem intentional, though. Immediately after the four-letter word left his mouth, Rockwell realized his mistake and covered his mouth in shock at what he did. Day and Strong also seemed taken off guard and visibly surprised. Kudos to all three actors, though. None of them broke character, despite the sketch almost going right off the rails.
Luckily, a lot of people watching the 2018 premiere episode of the classic sketch comedy show seemed to have a sense of humor about the situation. Some even took the opportunity to call out Trump for his recent "shithole" comments.
The actor is not the first host to get an F-bomb past NBC's censors. Last February, Kristin Stewart did the deed during her opening monologue. "Ok, so we've got a great show," Stewart said, "and I totally care that I'm here 'cause it's the coolest fucking thing ever."
Don't sweat it, Sam. Your slip up made the skit fucking hilarious. You can watch an edited version above.
