Los Angeles police shot and have critically injured a man who was flagging them down with an alleged towel wrapped around his arm.

** WARNING — Graphic Video **

A witness recorded an extremely graphic video, above, and according to the Los Angeles Times— "This person extended an arm wrapped in a towel. The officer exited the vehicle and said, 'Drop the gun, drop the gun,'" LAPD Lt. John Jenal stated.

The police said that the officers thought the man had a gun but turned out to be unarmed. Even after this realization, as seen in the video— the officers handcuffed the man and took him to the hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
