A British woman says her new husband attacked her on their wedding night because he couldn't get her dress off.
According to the New York Daily News, 22-year-old Amy Dawson's short-lived marriage to Gavin Golightly, 29, came to a violent end almost immediately after the wedding. The two wed in West Rainton, England last August, but Dawson said Golightly became livid when he experienced difficulty removing the dress.
"When he lashed out at me on my wedding night, I thought I was going to die" she told the Mirror. "I was terrifed. He looked like he was going to kill me."
Golightly, who got pregnant eight months into their relationship, said things turned sour quickly. "I fell pregnant after eight months, but almost straight away, Gavin became controlling and manipulative," she explained. "It was like walking on eggshells." In addition to obtaining a restraining order against Golightly, Dawson has also filed for divorce.
The attack left Dawson with a cut to her eyebrow and bruises to her face and chest. Arguing that he may have been drugged prior to the incident, Golightly said he didn't remember the attack. Regardless, he pleaded guilty to his actions and was ordered to 24 months of supervision.
