Where would you rather go: court or Barbados? The answer is Barbados, obviously. You know who agrees? Columbus Short.

Unfortunately for Short, when you have a scheduled court date, that’s the kind of thing you don’t want to skip just to go on vacation instead. What happens is that when you do finally show up to court, you get arrested on the spot.

The Scandal actor learned this lesson the hard way earlier today, as he was taken into custody immediately upon showing up in a Vun Nuys courthouse. He had elected to head to Barbados instead of showing up for a hearing on a domestic violence charge, even staying on vacation despite missing a second scheduled hearing. The judge upped his bail yesterday to $500,000, which got the actor back to the United States right quick.

The best part of the story is that, because he was arrested, Short missed a separate hearing regarding a bar fight he started, and for that the judge ordered he be held on $250,000 bail. So basically, Short has to come up with $750,000 if he wants to walk free any time soon.

Maybe he should have just stayed in Barbados after all.
