Following the controversy that surrounded its planning, Rev. Al Sharpton's protest in response to Eric Garner's death at the hands of the NYPD drew thousands of people.

According to CBS News, the NYPD said over 2,500 people participated in the march, which was titled "We Will Not Go Back." Garner, 43, died after Officer Daniel Pantaleo applied a chokehold in an attempt to subdue him in Staten Island last month. His death was ruled a homicide by the city medical examiner earlier this month, and all of the evidence in the case will be presented to a grand jury.

"We cannot have a society where police are automatically excused," Sharpton told reporters this week. "The definition of a police state is where the citizenry cannot question police and when they do they are penalized."
