A show about a bunch of criminals is apparently attracting a bunch of criminals.
In its first two days of release on Netflix, the original series Orange Is the New Black torrents were being illegally downloaded by 55,668 people in the U.S. Canada, U.K. and Australia, according to a report by Variety.
The report cites information from the firm Excipio, which keeps tabs on Internet piracy.
But the women-behind-bars dramedy doesn't attract nearly as many pirates as the politicians-being-eviler-than-expected drama House of Cards on Netflix, or HBO's did-you-see-who-died-this-week-plus-dragons fantasy Game of Thrones. The most recent seasons of those shows attracted 90,841 and a whopping 1.17 million pirates in their first two days of release, respectively.
Netflix isn't available in Australia (and the country was founded by convicts) so we can forgive the pirates down under, but what's the rest of the world's excuse for not shelling out $8.99 a month for a Netflix streaming account?
