This morning, Time offered a look into their next issue, which features Orange is the New Black’sLaverne Cox on the cover as part of a story called “The Transgender Tipping Point.”

Netflix-the network home of Orange is the New Black-took to Twitter to offer their praise:

Happy birthday and congrats to @OITNB very own @Lavernecox on the cover of @Time! http://t.co/A7Rigc2TP0 pic.twitter.com/MQLkZcZiBr #OITNB

Cox is an inspirational figure in the transgender community, having emerged from a tough childhood in Alabama to become a highly successful actress and a vocal advocate for transgender rights. When she isn’t acting, she’s traveling the country, speaking at universities and conducting thought-provoking interviews like this one with Katie Couric.

The Time article is yet another huge step forward for transgender rights in America, and sheds a bit more light on the challenges transgender people face on a day to day basis. Cox says that “I think the reality is that most of us are insecure about our gender,” and that “If someone needs to express their gender in a way that is different, that is okay, and they should not be denied healthcare. They should not be bullied. They don’t deserve to be victims of violence.”

The wide-ranging interview and a behind-the-scenes video are available here, and are definitely worth a look.
