It’s unclear what Madonna was thinking when called her son Rocco a “nigga” on Instagram. The photo, in which the 13-year-old is seen boxing, was captioned “No one messes with Dirty Soap! Mama said knock you out! #disnigga”.

Madonna then deleted the photo, presumably in response to a hailstorm of criticism from her followers, and reposted it with a different caption instructing “haters” to “get off her dick.”

She eventually issued an apology on Instagram and through a spokesperson. “I am sorry if I offended anyone with my use of the N word on Instagram. It was not meant as a racial slur. I am not a racist. There’s no way to defend the use of the word. It was all about intention,” she wrote. “It was used as a term of endearment toward my son who is white. I appreciate that it’s a provocative word and I apologize if it gave people the wrong impression.”

We’ve heard that one before.
