Everyone might want to reconsider eating bag after bag of spicy snacks like Flamin' Hot Cheeots, because they're bad for your stomach.

ABC 7 in Los Angeles reports that 12-year-old Andrew Medina learned that he developed gastritis after eating between 20 and 30 bags of assorted spicy chips and snacks each month. After weeks of stomach pain that felt like "a bruise," Medina was forced to tell his mother.

Gastritis involves the irritation, inflammation or erosion of the stomach's lining. Symptoms range from burning and bloating to hiccups, and even vomiting in extreme cases. These symptoms can develop over time, or appear out of nowhere.

Dr. Martha Rivera of the White Memorial Medical Center said she sees up to six cases of kids with gastritis each day thanks to their love of spicy snacks. "We have a population who loves to eat the hot spicy, not real foods, and they come in with these real complaints," she said.

Enjoy the spicy snacks by all means, but enjoy them in moderation. Too much of anything can be bad and your stomach will let you know that.
