As Marvel dedicates 2013 to wrapping up production on Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World, the studio is also in the process of getting all of the pieces together for 2014’s adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy. So far we know that James Gunn will be directing the film, but as of now no members of the cast have been solidified. However, according to Latino Review, it looks like Marvel is currently eyeing Jim Carrey and Adam Sandlerfor roles in the movie.

These two might seem out of place in a sci-fi film to some people, but it’s likely that the studio is going after them strictly as voice actors for characters like Rocket Raccoon (a talking raccoon who is armed to the teeth) and Groot (a walking, talking tree-like creature). Both men have experience with creating distinct voices for all of the characters that they play, so it’s logical that the studio would go in this direction.

While it’s not confirmed that these are the roles that they are being considered for, it’s the only explanation that makes any sense to us. We’ll keep you updated as more information begins to be revealed.

Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters on August 1, 2014.
