The West Indian American Day Parade went down in New York City yesterday, but unfortunately, it was marred by violence. Following the parade, their were several outbreaks of violence, including two shootings and two fatal stabbings.

Leandre Mallinckrodt, 27, was stabbed in the neck around 6 p.m. and later died at Kings County Hospital. Around 6:30 p.m., another man was stabbed just two blocks from the parade route. 21-year-old Gabriel Hernandez was arrested for murder and criminal possession of a weapon. A man and a woman were shot during the celebration yesterday, but neither suffered serious injuries.

It's always disheartening to see celebrations tarnished by violence, especially with such an overwhelming police presence.
