When you watch the Track & Field events at the Olympics you may notice something is missing: the starter pistol. This year, the London Games will feature Omega's new silent pistol.

In track, as you know, every fraction of a second counts. The silent starter's pistol, first introduced at the 2012 Vancouver Games, is an electronic gun that will send a "bang" to speakers positioned behind each runner on their starting block. It's meant to ensure that every runner hears the start sound at the same time. Omega learned that runners farther from the pistol heard the sound a few hundredths of a second later than those who were closer.
