Apple is known for its white products: the white MacBook, the original iPod, white earbuds, the white iPhone... the list goes on. Apple's success with the least colorful of all colors has inspired other companies to follow suit, and not just its competitors. Sandy McGill, BMW Designworks' lead designer in color, materials and finish, says automobile manufacturers have taken to making more and more cars in white because of the trend Steve Jobs started.

"Prior to Apple, white was associated with things like refrigerators or the tiles in your bathroom," McGill said in a recent interview with Yahoo's Motoramic. "Apple made white valuable."

And that's not just a designer talking— consumers have gone white crazy, too. This year, more cars were sold in white than in any other color for the first time on record. The previous title holder for the past 10 years? Silver.
