The recent history of live-action comic book adaptations on television has been mixed at best. Shows like Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Smallville had promise at first, but then fizzled under the weight of ridiculous storylines and shoddy special effects. And other attempts like Birds of Prey and The Phantom were declared dead before they even had a chance to suck. The CW is hoping that all of that changes this fall when the network debuts Arrow, based on the classic DC Comics character, The Green Arrow.

Now the network has debuted the first trailer from the show, which features a look at billionaire Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) as he fights for survival on a deserted island and returns to the U.S. to wage a war on crime and corruption in his hometown of Starling City. It's the classic hero's journey that we have seen countless times before, yet it somehow always manages to work.

There is no doubting the fact that this trailer is very reminiscent of Batman Begins; it even goes as far as to feature shots of Queen crafting his new equipment just as Christopher Nolan did for the Caped Crusader back in 2005. We doubt it'll even come close to the quality of Begins, but if you're going to emulate something, you might as well go for the best.

Arrow will debut on The CW this fall.
