Why we’re excited: Oh, Kenny Powers… We hardly knew thee. That’s right, Eastbound & Down’s upcoming third season is, assuming that series creators Danny McBride, Jody Hill, and Ben Best don’t pull a Shawn “I’m not really retired” Carter move, the raunchy HBO comedy’s final year.

If you think about it, though, it’s actually a smart move, considering that vulgar baseball has-been Kenny Powers, with all his delusions of grandeur, is the kind of alpha character that can grow obnoxious over a long period of time. Better that McBride’s star-making character leaves on a high, genuinely funny note than an insupportable one, which is what Eastbound & Down is on track to do with news that Jason Sudeikis has joined as a season regular and Will Ferrell’s hilariously insufferable car salesman will resurface.
