Shut down: Dec. 14, 2004; Nov. 17, 2009 distributed torrents for everything from music files to computer software and was heralded as the most popular P2P site at the time. Legal action forced the BitTorrent search engine to close. Rumors had Supernova going under because of user grievances with the server and constant downtime. One year later, another torrent index site appeared online named eXeem, which was advertised as "the revenge of suprnova" and abandoned months later because of unpopularity. The former was relaunched by The Pirate Bay on Aug. 21st, 2007 and succumbed to a second shutdown.
