WHERE: The Uptown (1928 Telegraph Ave., Oakland, Calif.)
WHEN: July 1, 2011
I've been a true fan of the Wah Wah 45s label since about 1998. The UK imprint, run by brothers Simon and Chris Goss, has dumped quality 7" records in the world's lap in fine succession since its inception in 1989. This Hackney Colliery Band brass band remake of Toto's seminal classic "Africa" ( Toto 4 LP, CBS 1982) is damn near too good to be true. HCB has officially raised the brass band cover song bar in my opinion. I love this fucking record, so did all the "Africans" in Oakland that night, and I guarantee you will too. Sleep not, dear friends.
