Joseph Gordon-Levitt has plenty of projects lined up for 2012, but one film he will not appear in is Jon Chu's G.I. Joe 2.

If you recall, two months ago, Rachel Nichols, who played. Scarlett in G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobravented her frustrations on Twitter over Paramount's choice to trim the enormously star-studded cast of the first film in preparation for the Chu-directed sequel. One character on the chopping block, despite his logical prominence in a sequel, was Gordon-Levitt's Cobra Commander (a.k.a. Rex Lewis/The Doctor).

At the 3:55 mark of Collider's interview with Gordon-Levitt, the actor confirms that he will not be returning for the action-packed sequel.

But don't let that news dampen your spirits, JGL fans. In 2012, the 30-year-old actor will still be seen in Rian Johnson's sci-fi action film Looper, David Koepp's thriller Premium Rush, and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. It's not exactly the bread line.
