In 2004, when this game was released (and don’t get us started on how the release year never matches the actual year a game comes out, because that’s one of our biggest sports gaming pet peeves), Chavez was coming off a career season. Which is to say he hit a whopping 29 homers and finished 17th in American League MVP voting. Yeah, yeah, he led a team of Moneyball-era budget stars to the playoffs. We only hope the folks at MLB 2005 got a discount on his cover shoot, too.
