In honor of his birthday, Joey Bada$$ released the one-off "Bornday (AquariUS)." The track opens with a sample from Nas' "Life's a Bitch," and finds Joey delivering a State of the Union update about his current existence. In the first verse, though, he detours to mention fellow Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda and his troubling circumstance, rapping, "And I'm a hot nigga, cause where was OG Bobby Johnson/To tell young Shmurda that he had some better options."

In this interview, Joey, who isn't a stranger to social commentary in his lyrics and also hails from the same part of Brooklyn as Shmurda, shares his thoughts on the rapper's ills.

He also speaks on why the well-timed track was released the same day as the album, but didn't make it on to the project. And he explains how his mind state differed when getting into album mode for his debut release.
