Premiere: EMI Shares Female Empowerment Track "Bad Friends"

Seattle artist EMI's new record "Bad Friends" is an empowering nod to the women in her life. "I feel like so many women can relate to feeling like no man will ever be good enough for their friends," she said.

EMI is gearing up to release her proper follow-up to Planet, but before then the Seattle singer/songwriter shares "Bad Friends." The record, which EMI co-produced with Shanti, takes on a female-empowered approach as she showers the women in her life with praise.

"I wanted the song to reflect my feelings towards my best friends," EMI told Complex via email. "I do so many songs that are hard and emotionless, that I really wanted to take the time to dedicate something positive and empowering to them, and to all women even though the song is about a couple specific people."

She added: "This song is like, 'I see you, I appreciate you, you’re a bad ass bitch, and nobody deserves you.' Because that’s how I truly feel about them. I feel like so many women can relate to feeling like no man will ever be good enough for their friends. We set higher standards for the people we love than for ourselves even. The whole vibe is just so positive, and speaks to that saying, 'If you see a woman doing great and you have nothing positive to add to her life, leave her alone.'"

Check out "Bad Friends" below and grab the song when it arrives Friday (June 29) on streaming services. EMI, who has been working with Mally Mall, will release her new project later this year.
