In the recording industry, the performers get most of the glory and recognition for their hits, while producers and songwriters usually receive the remainder of the attention. Recording engineers, though present for pretty much any studio session that’s ever resulted in a song that you like, rarely get any love outside of liner notes. As skilled technicians, they might make major contributions to the sound of the final product, but moving around microphones and editing Pro Tools files is a little less glamorous than belting out a chorus. And often, engineers simply work with whoever comes to the studio and employs them, not developing any particular relationship with the artists. But every now and again, a star develops a special relationship with an engineer that yields great work and allows the studio tech to get some much-deserved shine. So without further ado, we present to you the Engineers Behind Your Favorite Artists.
