Five individuals have been arrested and charged in the kidnapping and assault of Canadian "Crypto King" Aiden Platerski.

According to CBC News, Akil Heywood, one of the men charged is a Toronto investor who allegedly lost $740,000 after investing the money with Pleterski.

The arrests come after Pleterski had declared bankruptcy where investors tried to find over $40 million that had been given to him so he could invest it in cryptocurrency and foreign currency.

Heywood had attempted to get $2 million from Pleterski, according to court documents. He was then arrested for kidnapping Pleterski and threatening the administrator who was overseeing the "Crypto King's" bankruptcy.

CBC News also received a 12-minute video highlighting Pleterski's injuries and apologies to the investors for the lost money.

Pleterski's lawyer advised CBC News that neither he nor Pleterski have seen the video thus leading to Pleterski's inability to comment on it.

Prior to his alleged kidnapping, Pleterski had told representatives for the bankruptcy trustee that he was facing threats from Heywood via "violent threats" on Instagram and texts.

Three other men were arrested alongside Heywood and charged with crimes including pointing a gun at Pleterski, discharging a firearm in a way that was reckless to the life or safety of Pleterski, and assault.

A warrant for the rest of the fifth man has also been issued.

The charges have yet to be proven in court.
