Donald Trump gives an update on the coronavirus.

During a Sunday press conference that was called to address the ongoing coronavirus crisis, Donald Trump said that the government has "tremendous control" over the situation, which is a narrative that's hard to buy.

Trump's opening leg of the presser seemed to harp on that subject, as well as talking about how the Federal Reserve will try to protect the U.S. economy from the pandemic's effects. In a statement that did seem to provide some instruction that you should consider, he echoed the concerns of business leaders he claimed to have spoken to (including heads of Target, Campbell's and Costco) by advising people to stop panic-buying food/supplies. The stores won't run out if everybody just relaxes, but otherwise it'll become a crisis of our own making.

“They have asked me to say, ‘Could you buy a little bit less please.’” Trump said of those retailers. “I thought I would never hear that from a retailer.”

Earlier in the address he said “You don’t have to buy so much. Take it easy. Relax.”

Despite past statements from the administration that things were fine and coverage was overblown, a national emergency was declared this past Friday, with $50 billion being freed up for people affected.

The president's assurance that the government has "tremendous control" over the virus was undercut just hours before the press conference, when Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told ABC's This Week that things will get worse before they get better

All you have to do to disagree that the disease's spread throughout the U.S. is something the government has "tremendous control over" is read just about anything else on the subject. From the cancellation of pretty much all sports, to the closure of schools, to the increasing restriction on any place where public gatherings may take place, you, like these people, may be skeptical that there's any semblance of containment at the moment:

President Trump says the coronavirus is “something that we have total control over.”

Completely and utterly false.

The president is followed by Dr. Fauci: “the worst is yet ahead of us.”

Trump: "This is a very contagious virus. It's incredible. But it's something that we have tremendous control of." They do not have control of it at all.

Pres Trump: We have "tremendous control of" coronavirus.

FACT CHECK: False.

SOURCE: Anthony Fauci, head of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at NIH, said minutes after Trump's statement: "The worst is yet ahead of us."

We don't know when this will peak.

TRUMP: #Coronavirus is "something we have tremendous control over. Young people, people of good health, are not strongly affected."

WHAT TRUMP SHOULD SAY: "We're working to contain and mitigate this disease. Young people must practice social distancing to keep the public safe." pic.twitter.com/eJZx7XUi8S

TRUMP: “There’s a very contagious virus...but it’s something we have tremendous control of.”

Says he’s going “to go make some calls” now, again avoiding questions about lack of testing, shitshow at airports.

Leaves messaging about social distancing, mitigation to others.

"We have it very well under control."
"We pretty much shut it down."
"The numbers are going to get progressively better."
"We’re going very substantially down, not up."
"One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear."

None of it was true. https://t.co/E7ZDLvqMmv

Trump claims to have "tremendous control" over the #coronavirus.

What "control"???

Trump’s babbling dementia comments continue:
“It’s a very contagious virus it’s incredible but it’s something we have tremendous control over”
“Just relax”
“We’re doing great“

While:
-Tests will show a high infection rate
-FOMC sees big trouble ahead

To beat this Trump must go

Journalists, we get it. Trump said the #coronavirus is "something that we have tremendous control over." We know what he said was dumb, stupid, etc.

Let's talk about what the scientists and military people are saying
