Coronavirus has affected many when it comes to the future of their jobs, but to help put people at ease, the UK government has put in place a new scheme that will cover 80% of all wages of workers up to £2,500, if they're put on leave during the crisis.

Unfortuntely, the new scheme does not apply to the key workers who are pushing through the COVID-19 pandemic and helping the rest of us.

Today, the new Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme went live to help keep all staff on payroll and, according to HMRC chief executive, Jim Harra, a reported 67,000 claims were made in the first 30 minutes by employers.

"The big payroll date this month is on the 30th, so employers can claim anytime today, tomorrow or on Wednesday, and there's time to get that money into their account for the 30th of April," Harra said.

The Treasury has commented on the situation through stating they can process up to 450,000 applications an hour, with employers being expected to receive their money within six working days of submitting an application.

Millions of Britons are expected to be "furloughed" during this strange time we are in, and Chancellor Rishi Sunak settled the worries of those in need. "We promised support would be available by the end of April" he said. "Today, we deliver our promise."
