Donald Trump just conducted his longest and, perhaps, most unhinged press conference to date.
On Wednesday, the president stood in front of reporters for nearly 90 minutes, addressing a wide range of issues plaguing his administration. POTUS spoke about North Korea’s purported denuclearization, the fate of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the increase of interest rates, as well as his recent United Nations speech that was so predictably braggadocious, it elicited laughter from world leaders.
“They weren’t laughing at me, they were laughing with me,” Trump claimed at Wednesday’s presser. “We had fun. That was not laughing at me. So, the fake news said, ‘People laughed at President Trump. They didn’t laugh at me. People had a good time with me. We were doing it together.”
Mmmkay.
Unsurprisingly, a good portion of the press conference focused on the sexual misconduct allegations against Brett Kavanaugh, Trump’s Supreme Court nominee. POTUS told reporters he would watch Kavanaugh’s Thursday hearing with an open mind, but also called the scandal “a big fat con job” orchestrated by the left.
“[Democrats are] actually con artists because they know how quality this man is and they have destroyed a man’s reputation and they want to destroy it even more,” Trump said. “And I think people are going to see that in the midterms. What they have done to this family, what they have done to these children, these beautiful children of his, and what they have done to his wife. And they know it’s a big, fat con job.”
Trump addressed the fact that he, too, has been accused of sexual misconduct. He suggested his and Kavanaugh’s alleged victims were lying for financial gain.
“I was accused by four or five women who got paid a lot of money to make up stories about me,” Trump incorrectly stated; there are reportedly at least 17 women who have accused him of sexual misconduct. “[…] I’m a very famous person, unfortunately. I’ve been a famous person for a long time, but I’ve had a lot of false charges made against me. Really false charges. People want fame, they want money, they want whatever. So, when I see it, I view it differently than somebody sitting home watching television where they say, ‘Oh, Judge Kavanaugh, this or that.’ It’s happened to me many times. I’ve had many false charges. I had a woman sitting in an airplane, and I attacked her while people were coming on to the plane? And I have a number one bestseller out?”
