91-Year-Old Woman Goes Trick-or-Treating for the First Time in Her Life
Her family says she "had a blast."
You're never too old to enjoy trick-or-treating—despite what some municipal codes might say. Case in point? A 91-year-old great-grandmother who, for the first time ever, participated in the tradition earlier this week.
According to Inside Edition, Illinois resident Mary Spaeth accompanied her grandchildren and great-grandchildren during their annual excursion for treats. Spaeth, nicknamed "Baba," dressed up in a bunny costume and used her walked to hold her Halloween bag as she went door-to-door.
"She had a blast," her daughter Christine Spaeth Richardson told the outlet. "She did take us kids, but she never had an opportunity as a child."
Christine told Inside Edition that her mother came to the United States from Croatia shortly after WWII. Upon her arrival, she was sent to a nunnery to learn English, and never got the chance to take part in the holiday ritual for herself. Her daughter said the family wanted that to change this year, so they invited Baba to tag along.
"I just thought seeing her grandkids and great-grandbabies would give her a boost and it did," Christine said.
