A woman and her husband were fatally shot this week after a stalker who the couple previously filed a restraining order against broke into their home.

ABC News reports the female victim, a podcaster, befriended the suspect, 38-year-old Ramin Khodakaramrezaei, after he reached out to her after he became a fan of her podcasts. According to police, the podcaster and her husband were killed after Khodakaramrezaei broke into their Redmond, Washington house at 1:45 a.m. Friday.

Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the woman’s husband dead on the front lawn, having suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers found the dead bodies of the woman and Khodakaramrezaei in the couple’s bedroom, the latter from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police believe Khodakaramrezaei broke into the home through the woman’s mother’s bedroom window. The woman’s mother managed to escape, fleeing the home en route to a neighbor’s house, where she was able to call 911.

The couple had previously filed a restraining order against Khodakaramrezaei.

“Khodakaramrezaei had reportedly listened to the female victim’s podcasts and began communicating with her. The victim and suspect became friends, but when things escalated, she filed a no-contact order against him,” Redmond Police told reporters.

Police added, “A restraining order is simply a piece of paper that allows officers to take enforcement action should a suspect violate the court order. But a piece of paper does not protect a person when someone is intent on causing them harm.”
