In February, South Korean technology conglomerate Samsung unveiled its latest Galaxy phones, with the Galaxy Fold among them. The device officially launches on April 26 for $1,980 and has been sent out to reviewers. The 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Displays allows users to fold the tablet-sized phone to make it more compact, but reviewers have already been having issues with it after less than a week of use.

CNBC's Steve Kovach and the Verge's Dieter Bohn both reported either faulty displays or bulges on the screen from suspected debris.

The screen on my Galaxy Fold review unit is completely broken and unusable just two days in. Hard to know if this is widespread or not. pic.twitter.com/G0OHj3DQHw

The phone comes with this protective layer/film. Samsung says you are not supposed to remove it. I removed it, not knowing you’re not supposed to (consumers won’t know either). It appeared removable in the left corner, so I took it off. I believe this contributed to the problem. pic.twitter.com/fU646D2zpY

PSA: There's a layer that appears to be a screen protector on the Galaxy Fold's display. It's NOT a screen protector. Do NOT remove it.

I got this far peeling it off before the display spazzed and blacked out. Started over with a replacement. pic.twitter.com/ZhEG2Bqulr

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, meanwhile, posted about his "completely broken" review unit on Twitter. He revealed that the phone comes with a protective film over the screen, which he removed. Samsung has stated that users are supposed to leave the thin layer intact.

Dear future #GalaxyFold owners, I know I always say "No one ever read the instructions"... PLEASE READ THIS ONE!!!

YouTuber Marques Brownlee confirmed this on Twitter, revealing he got a little bit into peeling the layer off before the screen "spazzed and blacked out." Another reviewer, meanwhile, stressed that anyone considering buying the phone should definitely read the instructions this time around.

In a statement, Samsung says it is currently looking into the matter. The company also added that reviewers should definitely not peel away the protective layer on the display, saying, "Removing the protective layer or adding adhesives to the main display may cause damage. We will ensure this information is clearly delivered to our customers."
