Johnny Manziel might be ready to make an NFL comeback, but it doesn’t sound like the league is going to welcome him back with open arms. Just one day after Manziel said that he plans to get “completely sober” beginning on July 1 so that he can play football again, the NFL has reportedly decided to suspend him for four games. According to TMZ Sports, Manziel will be suspended for the first four games of the 2016 NFL season after violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. A source who spoke with TMZ Sports didn't reveal which part of the policy Manziel violated but did say it wasn't related to performance-enhancing drug use.

Of course, this won’t have much of an effect on Manziel right away. He was released by the Browns back in March and has not caught on with another team yet, because he’s basically radioactive at the moment. The substance abuse policy issue might actually be the least of his concerns, as Manziel currently has a host of legal issues hanging over his head as well as some substance abuse issues, if you believe the statements his former lawyer and his own father made last week.

Manziel hasn’t responded to the news of his suspension yet, but he has responded to the controversy he caused this week by taking a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico while wearing a Browns jersey. Manziel’s suspension could end up having a financial impact on him, though, according to Pro Football Talk:

Browns are likely secretly happy about the Manziel suspension, since it likely will void the remaining guaranteed money in his contract.

So we would expect him to have some kind of reaction to all of this sooner or later.
