Cronulla Sharks Fa'amanu Brown Falls for iPhone Microwave Hoax

"It looked fully legit"

Right or wrong, rugby league players are revered for their braun but rarely for their brains, and Cronulla Sharks young gun Fa’amanu Brown has scored one for stereotypes after falling for what might be the dumbest hoax floating around Facebook.

You’ve surely seen the 'I can’t believe it works!'videos on Facebook, promising your phone will be charged back to 100% after only one second in the microwave. And you’ve surely shaken your head and thought ‘who could possibly fall for this?’

Fa’amanu Brown, that’s who.

The Sharks utility was visiting teammate Valentine Holmes when he realised he needed to charge his phone. He thought back to a video he’d seen earlier, and a legend was born.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Brown elaborated on the mistake.

'I only put it in the microwave for one second and it caught on fire. I couldn't believe it, I was devastated,' said the remorseful Shark.

'It stunk of smoke but I thought that nothing would have happened in such a short space of time,'

If the serious damage wasn’t enough, Brown was also shocked to see the phone didn’t even charge. Crazy right?

‘It didn't charge, it still worked but it didn't have any service,' Brown continued. ‘(Valentine Holmes) lost it, he couldn't believe I actually did it.’

Fortunately for the 21 year-old Shark, a nearby Apple Store replaced the phone. He wasn’t entirely truthful about what had occurred though.

‘I didn't tell them I put it in the microwave, I just showed them that it had no service.’

Don't ever change, rugby league.
