The Most Insane Car Sound Systems

There is a such thing as too much bass.

Working at Complex, where we're constantly surrounded by musical environments, sound quality is very important to us, whether we're at a concert venue, testing out new in-ear headphones, or getting the all-important first listen of the new Drake club banger out in our car (at least the people who work for the RIDES section, others don't really have cars here). Because of this, we highly respect the art of a proper audio setup in cars.

However, thanks to the custom scene, there are plenty of setups that demand the opposite of respect. They just call for blatant disrespect. Nobody needs 18 speakers, eight amps, and five 18-inch subwoofers. You just don't. It's more for show and pure shock value than anything. We're here to call all of those people out. This is our collection of The Most Insane Car Sound Systems.

Scion xB

This is on some of that stupid Pimp My Ride shit. That's nice of you to consider all the people who are driving behind you, when you were planning TV screen locations, but it's just stupid to waste money like this. They're too low anyway.

Who needs seats

We're only impressed if the ceiling stands up as one enormous tower above the car. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of wasted sound with nowhere to go.

The sound of art

Lightning, horses, a warrior princess and massive sound? What part of this makes sense? It looks like the scenes when the Power Rangers would all morph and vault into battle.

Screen Overdose

Can we borrow this for every single football weekend this year? Please? We'll share our Madden 25 download code with you.

Too Loud

Loud in every facet of the word. Chrome, bright colors everywhere, spooky skulls, and speakers on speakers on speakers make for a car that will blind and deafen you at the same time.

Super Laser

We have a completely unreliable source telling us that this is Dr. Evil's newest laser-shooting vehicle that he plans to use to steal entire world's mojo and drill to the center of the earth at the same time.

World's Fastest Minivan?

We call shenanigans. This thing is too deceiving, with its enormous jet-engin-looking subwoofer it's harboring in the back. Made for extreme fist-pumpers only.

Egg Truck

Maybe this is where they're going to film the next 5 Gum commercial.

I see you

With all this talk about privacy, we're paranoid that all of those are actually cameras watching our every move. Like creepy security insect eyes.

Loud Pickup

What's the point in buying a big-ass pickup, if you can't stuff thousands of watts intot he bed? American's don't use them for what they're supposed to be used for anyway.

Old Truck, New Tricks

How old is that truck and how young are those speakers?

When aliens take over your trunk?

It looks like this car is holding alien pods in the trunk. The glowing speakers may be a bit too much.

Unesscesary

If you can fit it that doesnt mean you need it. This car has T.V. screens, subwoofers, speakers, and Lambo doors!.....Why?

Driving Blind

Who needs to actually be able to see out of cars? Safety is for pussies. This car spares no space when it comes to sound.

Amps Galore

Is 10 amps enough? Maybe not for some, but this setup would probably just leave everybody's ears bleeding. Look at the size of those subs!

Hatch

How many speakers can you fit in a sub compact? This tiny hatchback, what looks to be an older generation Chevy Spark/Daewoo Matiz, has more than enough wattage to keep a block party going.

WTH

We've always questioned the authenticity of this photo, but we had to included it simply due to its level of ridiculousness? That thing mus have bricks just lining the engine bay to keep that thing from tilting backward.

When Themes take attack

Maybe this one is too far? Mermaids, Castles, and Tentacles? Not only is the exterior painted like an underwater fantasy oasis but it continues inside with some weird tentacle holding one of the screens. Who wants an octopus touching their shit?

No new friends, No new friends.....

Who needs friends, when you have loads of speakers? The suicide doors and backseats in what looks like a Mazda RX-8 are just more space for speakers, right?

Car 1

With nine speakers and two subwoofers, this tiny hatch is sure to keep the party pumping. The sculpted molding holding all of that audio equipment looks like some sort of electric coral reef that ate the back seats.

Earth Shaking Sound

This massive six-wheeled heavy duty truck has not one, not two, not even three, but NINE 2,400W subwoofers smacked on the back like a bunch of rockets. It might look like a truck that could take you from here to the future, but it is all just to shake the ground you stand on.
