When it comes to tackling in the NFL, everything's fair game. And by that we mean everything except for pulling facemasks, and horse collars, and helmet-to-helmet shots, and subjective pops on defenseless receivers, late hits, sideline hits on QBs, low hits on QBs, anything kind of hard on Tom Brady, etc. So, actually, not much is legal at all.
But long hair is still in play, and a few times per season a player gets torn down by it. In the past it's been Troy Polamalu and Larry Fitzgerald, today it was Redskins running back Matt Jones. We're not saying Jones should get a haircut, it's his scalp, but we are saying you don't see Matt Hasselbeck have these types of problems.
