Eastbay’s announcement to discontinue its business yesterday marked the end of an era for many longtime sneaker fans.

“We’re saying goodbye to Eastbay at the end of December 2022,” Eastbay said in a statement about the closure.

Founded in 1980 by two friends, Art Juedes and Rick Gering, after being frustrated with the lack of options for running shoes in their hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin. The business strategy of Eastbay was to bring the shoes directly to the athlete, which was achieved through their monthly mail-in catalogs.

Before the age of the internet, the online retailers’ monthly catalogs served as a primary destination for shoppers to learn about the latest sneaker releases. For many longtime fans, the physical pages of the Eastbay catalogs sparked their affinity for sneakers, as they provided the most in-depth look at the hottest releases at the time of issue.

As expected with this announcement, fans gathered on social media to reminisce on the good times from receiving their monthly Eastbay catalogs. Scroll through for some of the best reactions below.

Sad week hearing that @Eastbay is being shut down.

I grew up reading Eastbay with my cereal *every* morning — and it’s how I learned all about the sneaker industry.

For everyone growing up in the 90s, we owe a huge thanks to Eastbay for sparking that love for sneakers early on. pic.twitter.com/q97AKJEmy7

I tore this out a Eastbay magazine in 2003 in hopes to get the grey Air Penny 4. pic.twitter.com/xJ35oU7cwi

Eastbay magazine is officially closing at the end of 2022. If you’re in your mid-30s and older, you remember spending time looking at the catalog each month. R.I.P. pic.twitter.com/nP0RhkwdTy

Eastbay closing matters for many of us from a different era who ordered the free catalogs because we didn’t have a lot growing up.

I used to take the catalog to school and fantasize about buying the kicks that were pictured. I used to pin up cutouts from the catalog in my room. pic.twitter.com/QtXhu6i3qn

Many a day after school during my childhood were spent flipping through @Eastbay and having my mom call in orders on the wall phone. Brings back great memories.
