Regina-native, and star of the Canadian cult-drama Orphan Black, Tatiana Maslany, is one of the ladies being considered for the newest Star Wars project. According to The Hollywood Reporter Maslany is screen testing for the leading female role in the much-hyped Star Wars spinoff directed by Godzilla and Monsters’ Gareth Edwards.  

LucasFilm has kept a tight lip on the details of the newest project, except to say Edwards is creating one of two stand-alone films for the franchise, expected to be released Dec. 16, 2016.

The Canadian actress has captivated the world over throughout the last few years with her performance in Orphan Black. TheSci-Fi drama about clones has Maslany playing multiple main characters. Maslany's role even landed her a nomination for Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Drama Series at this year’s SAG Awards.

Other actresses reported to be under consideration for the role are Rooney Mara, and The Theory of Everything’s Felicity Jones.

The Star Wars saga continues with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, due to hit theatres across Canada on December 18, 2015.
