A Florida court ruled that a woman whose home was damaged by the explosion of her neighbor's corpse must pay for the repairs herself.

According to the New York PostJudy Rodrigo alleged that Keystone Condominium Association employees neglected the presence of the elderly woman's body in 2008, resulting in its eventual "explosion." By the time the maintenance team investigated, the woman's corpse was being consumed by her dog.

Rodrigo's lawsuit claimed that Keystone failed to replace the building's "common elements" that has been doused with liquids from the woman's body, forcing her to come out of her own pocket for repairs. Even after her apartment was gutted, she said the smell remained.

A potential personal property damage payout was was declined after State Farm determined this was not something they were responsible for covering, a sentiment the court agreed with. "The plain meaning of the term ‘explosion’ does not include a decomposing body’s cells explosively expanding, causing leakage of bodily fluids," it ruled.

Unfortunately for Rodrigo, the powers that be seem to agree that this was just a freak accident and while a huge inconvenience, not something Keystone is responsible for.
