Zack Synder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice maybe as divisive as a comic book superhero film may get, but it does one thing we can all agree on; it set the wheels in motion for the upcoming Justice League films.
BTW if you still haven’t seen BvS, we’re about to go into some minor spoiler territory—you have been warned.
Towards the final act of the film we see Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot, watch various security footage containing ‘meta-humans’, including a look at Jason Momoa as Aquaman. The first Justice League film is setup for a 2017 release while Aquaman himself will getting a solo-movie in 2018, that’s all expected. What wasn’t expected was director James Wan's comments on the film, in an interview with IGN he promised that Aquaman will have a far more different tone to BvS, despite being set in the same universe.
Speaking at WonderCon recently, he explains that:
Whilst the comments should not be taken as a thinly veiled jab at BvS, he does seem keen to distance his ‘Aquaman’ away from the extended DCU. Could this be due to the scathing reviews from film critics? Probably not, but he does seem keen to change the perception of Aquaman as a 'lame superhero' who's powers only work underwater.
