IFC Films has unleashed the first trailer for the Peter Dinklage-starring Three Christs, and it looks bizarre. Featuring the Game of Thrones veteran as one of three psychiatric ward patients who believe they are Jesus Christ, the film also stars Julianna Margulies, Walton Goggins, Bradley Whitford, Charlotte Hope, Stephen Root, and Richard Gere.

Directed and co-written by Jon Avnet, the drama sees Gere's Dr. Alan Stone conducting a psychiatric case study on three patients, who each have paranoid schizophrenic delusions. Dinklage, Goggins, and Whitford portray the three men, each demanding to be addressed by what they believe is their "proper name." Despite the strange premise, it's actually based on a real book-length case study by Milton Rokeach, The Three Christs of Ypsilanti.

The trailer shows the doctor bringing the three men together in the same room to debate who actually is Jesus Christ, since they say there can only be one. Originally filmed in 2016 with a premiere at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival in 2017, the film received negative reviews from some of the critics that saw it. The Hollywood Reporter referred to it as a "god-awful bore of a movie," while Screen Daily said it "assaults the viewer with manipulative twists."

Three Christs, which clearly sounds like an absolute blast, will hit theaters in a limited capacity and VOD services on Jan. 10, 2020.
