Game of Thrones has always been the type of series that would spare no expense with each episode. Why would they not go the extra mile to ensure that spoilers regarding the show’s final season don’t get out beforehand? Thrones has been using a “drone killer” to combat any aerial cameras that could gather any tidbits of information by simply flying over the set.
Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark on the hit HBO series, brought up the existence of a drone killer on set during her appearance at New York Comic Con last weekend. “If a drone flies above sets, there’s a thing that can kill the drones, which is really cool,” she said, per Entertainment Weekly. “It creates a field around it and the drones just drop. It’s very X-Men."
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was reportedly the first to employ the use of a drone killer for the 2017 Rose Parade. Los Angeles Timesreports that the device can be used to “disable a drone in the sky and force it back to the ground.” The authorities claim to only use it when it’s a “life-or-death situation.” The drone killer resembles the look of a firearm, and “can be aimed like a rifle or a shotgun at a drone in the air. The 30-degree field of its beam and its range of almost half a mile make the target hard to miss.”
Considering that little to no leaked images from Thrones’ eighth and final season has gotten out, the drone killer appears to be doing its job.
